Carousel

 “Carousel” was based on a play before Rodgers & Hammerstein created a stage version of the story. After opening on Broadway in 1945, the show premiered in the West End 5 years later. A film version followed in 1956.

 “I Know Him So Well” was a major hit single in Britain. The disc spent 4 weeks at #1. It was recorded by two cast members on the original concept album (which preceded the stage productions of “Chess”): Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson.

UB40 covered "Kingston Town" for its 'Labour Of Love II' album, issued in 1989. The original version had been recorded by reggae artist Lord Creator in 1969. Using his real name Kentrick Patrick, he penned the song. UB40's remake was issued as a single in 1990.

La Cage Aux Folles

Drawing inspiration from the French play and screen adaptation, “La Cage Aux Folles” was transformed into a musical. It opened on Broadway in 1983. The songs were composed by Jerry Herman and Harvey Fierstein was its librettist. Arthur Laurents was the original director on Broadway.The production collected 6 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. “I Am What I Am’ was soon adopted as an anthem for marginalized groups.
