Despite his immense popularity in America, a number one single has eluded Bruce Springsteen. Manfred Mann's Earth Band took one of his compositions to the top ("Blinded By The Light"). Springsteen himself came close to achieving that goal in his own right with "Dancing In The Dark". The single remains his highest charting song in the U.S.A.

EUROVISION 2025

HISTORY

-1965-

Sixty years ago, the Eurovision Song Contest was held in Naples, Italy. Although a glance at the pop charts would have reflected the immense popularity of English rock music, the British Invasion and Beatlemania had not influenced the outcomes of the ESC.

This changed in 1965. For the first time, an entry with a modern pop sound emerged as the winning song. Luxembourg’s “Poupée de Cire, Poupée du Son” was composed by renowned French singer / songwriter Serge Gainsbourg. Performed by France Gall, the entry was cool French pop.

Sung in French, this was the second Eurovision victory for Luxembourg. There would be three more to come. In 1993, Luxembourg withdrew from the Contest. The long absence ceased in 2024.

This year, Luxembourg will be represented by the song “La Poupée Monte Le Son” (The Doll Turns Up The Volume). Laura Thorn will be performing the entry in French during Semi Final 2. If the song wins the 2025 Contest, it will be the sixth victory for Luxembourg and its first since 1983.
