11 NORWAY
A MONSTER LIKE ME
Mørland & Debrah Scarlett
Sung in
English
This slow duet could go either way: it might
attract enough votes In Semi-Final 2 to qualify for the Grand Final; but it
takes a few listens to reveal its quality. It may prove to be too intense for Eurovision.
Mørland, who wrote the entry, usually lives in the UK while Scarlett is based
in Switzerland. The 2 first met working on this collaboration.

12
RUSSIA
A
MILLION VOICES Polina Gagarina
Sung in English
Versatile performer Gagarina is a well-known singer, actress and
songwriter in Russia. The song was written by an international team comprised
of Swedes, Russians and an Australian based in Germany. It will be interesting
if politics (against the evil Putin, and not the nation’s decent citizens)
hinders the chances of a strong entry in Semi-Final 1.

13 ROMANIA
DE LA CAPAT (ALL OVER AGAIN) Voltaj
Sung
in Romanian & English
Romania’s entry deals with the plight of young
children left behind by parents who had to emigrate in order to find work. If
the cause is conveyed effectively, it
could prove a strong contender in Semi-Final 1. Fortunately, it’s also a strong
song from an experienced pop/rock band.

14 SAN MARINO
CHAIN OF LIGHTS
Michele Perniola & Anita Simoncini
Sung in English
These 2
singers will be the youngest pair to perform a duet at Eurovision when
they take to the stage during Semi-Final 2. Their song is an appeal
for worldwide cohesion. It’s another grower which will hopefully attract some
younger voters to help it into the Grand Final. Perniola’s good looks won’t
hurt either.

15 SLOVENIA
HERE FOR YOU Maraaya
Sung
in English
Maraaya, consisting of married couple Marjetka and Raay, will
represent Slovenia with the upbeat indie pop tune “Here For You”. The 2 co-wrote it with Charlie Mason. Most
likely, Marjetka will perform in Semi-Final 2 wearing her trademark headphones.

16 POLAND
IN THE NAME OF LOVE Monika Kuszyñska
Sung
in English
A car accident has left Kuszyñska partially
paralysed and confined to a wheelchair . She will sing a ballad she co-wrote in
Semi-Final 2 in the hope of achieving the 1st Polish victory after
decades of competing.

17 ISRAEL
GOLDEN BOY Nadav Guedj
Sung
in English
Guedj is a 16 year old Paris-born native of
Israel with a fun, upbeat song that celebrates the spirit of Tel Aviv. This is
the best Israeli entry for some years and could prove to be successful. It will
hopefully qualify in Semi-Final 2.

18 GREECE
ONE LAST BREATH Maria Elena Kyriakou
Sung
in English
Cyprus-born Kyriakou co-wrote the big ballad
that is the Greek entry for this year. It’s a safe song from a country that has
offered some diverse and exciting entries in the recent past. It will compete
in Semi-Final 1.

19 GERMANY
BLACK SMOKE Ann Sophie
Sung
in English
The German entry “Black Smoke” is 1 of the
quality songs in this year’s offerings; featuring strong vocals, catchy chorus
and an impressive track that will be part of the Grand Final. This will be a grower that could gain more momentum in the live show.

20 BELARUS
TIME Uzari & Maimuna
Sung
in English
Belarus is hoping for its 1st win at
Eurovision with a duet from pop songwriter Uzari and classically trained
violinist Maimuna. The song will compete in Semi-Final 1.
21 NETHERLANDS
WALK ALONG Trijntje Oosterhuis
Sung
in English
In 2014, The Netherlands finished in 2nd
place with the modern country flavoured “Calm After The Storm”. This year’s
entry was penned by Anouk, who sang the Dutch entry “Birds” 2 years ago and ended among the Top 10. “Walk Along” is immediately catchy but I fear it may
run out of steam by the time it competes in Semi- Final 1.

22 IRELAND
PLAYING WITH NUMBERS Molly Sterling
Sung in
English
Ireland has won Eurovision 7 times and is hoping
to increase its lead with 1 of its best entries ever. In Semi-Final 2, 17 year
old Sterling deserves to qualify.

23 AZERBAIJAN
HOUR OF THE WOLF Elnur Huseynov
Sung
in English
Azerbaijan 1st competed in the ESC
in 2008. Huseynov was part of the duo that performed its debut entry. He
returns with a ballad that is interesting but may find it tough qualifying in
Semi-Final 2.It's a grower, so can't be dismissed as a contender.

24 MOLDOVA
I WANT YOUR LOVE Eduard Romanyuta
Sung in
English
The Ukrainian performer switched countries to
Moldova when his home country withdrew from this year’s ESC. He has good looks and a rather catchy song
that could help him qualify in Semi-Final 1, where he will be the 1st
entry to perform.

25 LITHUANIA
THIS TIME Monika Linkytc & Vaidas Baumila
Sung
in English
Lithuania will commence proceedings in
Semi-Final 2 with an upbeat and pleasant duet that is somewhat dated.

26 ARMENIA
FACE THE SHADOW Genealogy
Sung
in English
Originally entitled “Don’t Deny”, the song
will be performed by Genealogy in Semi-Final 1. The group consists of a native
of Armenia and 5 others representing each of the continents where these persons
of Armenian background now live. Armenia entered its best song ever in 2014.
This year’s is not as promising.

27 CZECH REPUBLIC
HOPE NEVER DIES
Marta Jandova & Vaclav Noid Barta
Sung
in English
The Czech Republic returns to Eurovision for
the first time since 2009 with a duet that will compete in Semi-Final 2.

28 CYPRUS
ONE THING I SHOULD HAVE DONE
John Karayiannis
Sung
in English
Cyprus is yet to win at Eurovision and was
absent in 2013. It returns to compete in
Semi-Final 2 with a sweet ballad that sounds too familiar and never really takes off.
Another contender, “Without Your Love” by Panagiotis Koufogiannis would have
been a wiser selection.

29 BELGIUM
RHYTHM INSIDE Loic Nottet
Sung
in English
With a sound reminiscent of Lorde’s “Royals”,
there’s no denying the Belgian entry may appeal to a young audience. His good
looks and youth may help too. Nottet
co-wrote the song and came 2nd in 2014’s “The Voice” in his country.

30 MALTA
WARRIOR Amber
Sung
in English
Amber will perform the 2nd entry
with the title “Warrior” this year in Semi-Final 2. Malta has been
participating for decades but has yet to win Eurovision. It’s unlikely with
this song.

31 SERBIA
BEAUTY NEVER LIES Bojana Stamenov
Sung
in English
Serbia returns to the ESC this year,
represented by performer Bojana Stamenov. The song’s positive message should
resonate with viewers enough to qualify in Semi-Final 1.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zCz_fJa1yA
32 GEORGIA
WARRIOR Nina Sublatti
Sung
in English
Nina Sublatti wrote & co-produced
“Warrior” with Swedish hit songwriter Thomas G:son. There is a song with this same title in both
Semi-Finals., with Georgia battling it out in Semi-Final 1.
33 SWITZERLAND
TIME TO SHINE Mélanie René
Sung
in English
This pop-flavoured Swiss entry was written by
Mélanie René, who will also sing the song in Semi-Final 2. The verses build
effectively, but the chorus disappoints.

34 ICELAND
UNBROKEN Maria Olafs
Sung
in English
Iceland is another ESC veteran nation that has yet to win. It's unlikely to happen this year with "Unbroken". It will need to face off tough competition to even emerge from Semi-Final 2.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sov_pE1cdFY
35 ALBANIA
I’M ALIVE Elhaida Dani

Elhaida Dani is vying to qualify in Semi-Final
1 with a song that may take her to the Grand Final.

36 F.Y.R. MACEDONIA
AUTUMN LEAVES Daniel Kajmakoski
Sung
in English
Pop singer Daniel Kajmakoski co-wrote the
Macedonian entry and will perform it in English during Semi-Final 1. It's a grower and could shape up into a contender for the Grand Final.

37 PORTUGAL
HA UM MAR QUE NOS SEPARA
Leonor Andrade
There’s
A Sea That Separates Us} Sung in Portuguese
Portugal remains 1 of the least successful
countries at Eurovision and usually struggles to make the Grand Final. I doubt
this will qualify in Semi-Final 2.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xowMYNzYWbE
38 HUNGARY
WAR FOR NOTHING Boggie
Sung
in English
This entry is an anti-war protest song which
may resonate in Semi Final 1, but it’s slow and dreary.

39 LATVIA
LOVE INJECTED Aminata

Latvia is going with a different style in
Semi-Final 2 with this electronic / pop entry from 1 of its female pop stars.
