In 2009, Don McLean released his 'Addicted To Black' album. The track "I Was Always Young" was included on the disc. His lyrics involve a protagonist still in love with his ex. Although years have passed, he still feels the void. The song deals with the passage of time and ageing.

DIDN’T YOU KNOW (YOU’D HAVE TO CRY SOMETIME)

“…Didn’t anybody tell you

love had another side...”

On the 1969 album 'The Nitty Gritty', Gladys Knight & The Pips belt out the heart-wrenching track "Didn't You Know (You'd Have To Cry Sometime)". 

Gladys Knight is in her element, injecting high drama into the dramatic Motown song. The song was composed by married couple Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. 

Its verses deal with a man who returns to the woman he hurt in the past after his heart has been shattered by another woman. The first woman points out that love can bring great joy but can also lead to deep pain.

EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2017 SEMI-FINAL 1 PREVIEW 18 songs will compete in each of the 2 Semi-Finals. The 10 with the most points will progress to the Grand Final. Caffé Latté previews Semi-Final 1 with the 10 it prefers and the 10 it predicts will qualify. The latter group is based on neighbourly voting and live rehearsals so far.

THE END

“…And in the end,

the love you take,

is equal to

the love you make...”

The aptly-titled "The End" was one of the final recordings by The Beatles on their last studio LP 'Abbey Road'. Although it was released in 1969 and prior to 'Let It Be', the former was completed after that disc.

Paul McCartney contributed the lyrics, although the song (as was their custom) is credited to both him and John Lennon. The line "... and in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make" adds a philosophical edge to the track.

Australian entertainer John Farnham recorded the heart-wrenching ballad "Please Don't Ask Me" for his 1980 album 'Uncovered'. The moving song was penned by Graham Goble, a principal songwriter in the Australian group Little River Band. 

"Please Don't Ask Me" involves a man who finds himself in love with someone he cannot have. This is because he is already in a relationship with another woman, as explained in the line "my heart's not free". He continues wrestling with his feelings for the other woman in the remaining verses.
