As the tumultuous decade of the 1960s came to a close, there was an end of the innocence. Music grew up and was delving further into heavy metal and hard rock. Drugs and psychedelia were influential. Rock festivals celebrated the cohesion of Woodstock but were tarnished with the tragedy at Altamont. The Beatles played in public for the final time. As Neil Armstrong stepped foot on the lunar surface, David Bowie emerged with "Space Oddity". Miles Davis recorded a jazz/rock fusion album. John & Yoko gave anti-war demonstrators a new anthem: "Give Peace A Chance". Blood, Sweat & Tears fused styles to create a sound that was explored further by Chicago Transit Authority. Elton John's debut album was issued. Just before 1969 concluded, Motown released an album by The Jackson 5, featuring an impressive young lead singer named Michael.

TEMPLE OF LOW MEN: CROWDED HOUSE

CH-TOLM.jpg
 [1988]
After Split Enz called it a day, no one could have foreseen that Neil Finn would lead an even better group. But that he did- with Crowded House. His songwriting had raised the bar for the Enz, but now it was allowed to reached its full potential. This 2nd album from his new group contained some of his best work. "Into Temptation" saw his songwriting compared to Paul McCartney. This album proved Crowded House was the best group from The Antipodes. Highlight tracks: Into Temptation; I Feel Possessed & Better Be Home Soon.

CAFFE` LATTE`TOP 2000 TRACKS {EXPANDED EDITION}

#1965 SEA OF LOVE The Honeydrippers
The Honeydrippers was a short-lived side project helmed by Robert Plant. In 1984, an E.P. was issued which contained hit single "Sea Of Love". The remake of the 1959 song written by Phil Phillips and George Khoury, reached #3 Pop & #1 AC in the USA.

#1966 I BOW OUT Whitney Houston
In 1998, Whitney Houston returned to her R&B roots with the 'My Love Is Your Love' album. She was in fine voice on "I Bow Out". The uncompromising song was penned by Diane Warren. Babyface and Rodney Jerkins produced.

The list is a ranking made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice.This expanded section now includes songs from the last few years. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs ranked in positions 1501-2000 will also be added next week.
