As the tumultuous decade of the 1960s came to a close, there was an end of the innocence. Music grew up and was delving further into heavy metal and hard rock. Drugs and psychedelia were influential. Rock festivals celebrated the cohesion of Woodstock but were tarnished with the tragedy at Altamont. The Beatles played in public for the final time. As Neil Armstrong stepped foot on the lunar surface, David Bowie emerged with "Space Oddity". Miles Davis recorded a jazz/rock fusion album. John & Yoko gave anti-war demonstrators a new anthem: "Give Peace A Chance". Blood, Sweat & Tears fused styles to create a sound that was explored further by Chicago Transit Authority. Elton John's debut album was issued. Just before 1969 concluded, Motown released an album by The Jackson 5, featuring an impressive young lead singer named Michael.
