"Hot Line" was co-written by Freddie Perren, who also co-wrote The Sylvers' US #1 hit "Boogie Fever". He also contributed to the creation of the chart-topping classics "I Want You Back" (Jackson 5) and "I Will Survive" (Gloria Gaynor) as well as producing "Love Machine" (The Miracles).

The
protagonist is in bed, bored with his current relationship. While his partner
sleeps beside him, he begins to search for a new lover in the personals. One ad
catches his eye. He decides to respond. A meeting is arranged. When the two
meet, the protagonist discovers the woman looking for a new relationship is in
fact, his current partner! The ad makes them realize new things about each
other, including a shared love of pina coladas. 
A
lighthearted song from one of rock music’s greatest groups, “Fool In The Rain”
deals with a man who is head over heels in love with a woman. They have made
plans for a rendezvous. He waits. And waits. He grows anxious. The woman never
shows up. Rain is falling. Wet and deflated, by the song’s end he realizes he
is waiting for the woman on the wrong block! 
Initially,
the lyrics suggest this is a love song about two adults. Verses later
reveal that the “Clair” in the song title is in fact a little girl. The child
that inspired the hit song is said to be the 3-year old daughter of Gilbert O’Sullivan’s
manager, Gordon Mills. As the track continues, the singer / songwriter recounts
how much he enjoys the times he babysits little Clair. She has him wrapped
around her finger.
