ON A CLEAR DAY (YOU CAN SEE FOREVER)

The title song from the Streisand film that premiered in 1970. Yves Montand was her co-star. It was directed by Vincente Minnelli.

LAZY AFTERNOON

“Lazy Afternoon” was from a musical entitled “The Golden Apple”. It served as the title track from Streisand’s 1975 album release.

MUSIC OF THE NIGHT

‘The Broadway Album’ had been so successful for Streisand that a sequel was inevitable. ‘Back To Broadway’ was issued in 1993. “Music Of The Night” was recorded as a duet with the original West End Phantom: Michael Crawford. The 2 had previously worked together in the film ‘Hello, Dolly!’. “Music Of The Night” is one of the standout songs in the long-running musical “The Phantom Of The Opera”. Streisand’s version was co-produced by her and David Foster. It features the London Symphony Orchestra.

I’D RATHER BE BLUE OVER YOU (THAN HAPPY WITH SOMEBODY ELSE)

In 1968, Streisand made her film debut in the screen adaptation of ‘Funny Girl’. She portrayed the legendary Fanny Brice. “I’d Rather Be Blue Over You (Than Be Happy With Somebody Else)” was performed by Streisand in the motion picture.

I DON’T KNOW WHERE I STAND

‘Stoney End’ was Richard Perry’s first album project with Streisand. He collected song ideas for the sessions that would present a more contemporary theme for the singer. “I Don’t Know Where I Stand” was penned by Joni Mitchell.

I WON’T LAST A DAY WITHOUT YOU

Streisand unleashed ‘ButterFly’ in 1974. Jon Peters was at the helm as producer. “I Won’t Last A Day Without You” was written by Paul Williams and Roger Nichols. It was recorded in Los Angeles.

I DON’T BREAK EASILY

“I Don’t Break Easily” was written by Bruce Roberts and is found on Streisand’s 1978 album ‘Songbird’. As well as writing 2 of her biggest singles after this project, Roberts has co-written hits for other acts. These include: “Twist My Arm” (Pointer Sisters), “You’re Moving Out Today” (Carol Bayer Sager) and “The Lucky One” (Laura Branigan).

TILL I LOVED YOU

The title track for Streisand’s 1988 album ‘Till I Loved You’, was a duet recorded with her then beau, Don Johnson. He is best remembered for his role in the TV series “Miami Vice”.

LOVE’S NEVER WRONG

Streisand has always championed LGBTIQ+ rights. “Love’s Never Wrong” has a powerful message that love cannot be legislated. The song began as a demo by Steve Dorff. Streisand co-produced the final result, located on her ‘Walls’ album, with Walter Afanasieff.

WET

The title track from her 1979 album, “Wet” was co-written by Streisand. Gary Klein produced the album. All of the songs on this album had some connection to water.

IF YOU GO AWAY (NE ME QUITTE PAS)

Jacques Brel’s classic with English lyrics written by Rod McKuen was covered by Streisand on 2009’s ‘Love Is The Answer’. The album reached #1 on both sides of the Atlantic.

ANY MOMENT NOW

The musical “Smile” was created by Marvin Hamlisch with lyricist Carolyn Leigh. Streisand’s remake is a duet recorded with lauded actor of stage and screen Hugh Jackman. Throughout the track, spoken dialogue by the 2 performers reveals a relationship that has deteriorated. The collaboration was included on her 2016 album entitled ‘Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway’.

SO MANY STARS

This song was composed by Sergio Mendes. English lyrics were penned by frequent Streisand collaborators Alan & Marilyn Bergman. At one point in the song, Streisand sings in Portuguese. The track was featured on the 2011 album ‘What Matters Most: Barbra Streisand Sings The Lyrics Of Alan And Marilyn Bergman’.

Streisand’s 1971 album ‘Barbra Joan Streisand’ contains 2 covers of songs written by John Lennon: “Mother” and “Love”. This was her second LP produced by Richard Perry which presented a more contemporary perspective.

MAKE NO MISTAKE, HE’S MINE

The 1984 album ‘Emotion’ contained this duet with Kim Carnes. It was lifted as a single. Carnes wrote the song. She co-produced the track with Bill Cuomo.

I’VE DREAMED OF YOU

When Streisand married James Brolin, “I’ve Dreamed Of You” was used. The wedding song began as an instrumental entitled “Heartland” and recorded by Secret Garden (winners for Norway at the 1995 Eurovision Song Contest with “Nocturne”). Lyrics by Ann Hampton- Callaway were added. After her nuptuals, Streisand commenced work on her next album: ‘A Love Like Ours’. This track was included. Streisand produced the recording.

ADELAIDE’S LAMENT

This was a bonus track on the CD version of ‘The Broadway Album’. The song was from the musical “Guys And Dolls”. Streisand applies her acting prowess in the delivery of this track, which she co-produced with Peter Matz.

ON MY WAY TO YOU

“On My Way To You” was written by Alan & Marilyn Bergman and Michel Legrand. It was included on Streisand’s 1988 album ‘Till I Loved You’. The vocalist produced the track.

THE SINGER

In 1970, Streisand began recording an album that was later shelved. “The Singer” was one of its tracks that remained in the vaults until its appearance on the ‘Just For The Record...’ box set.

QUEEN BEE

The Oreos add backup vocals on this song performed by Streisand for the ‘A Star Is Born’ motion picture soundtrack. Rupert Holmes, who enjoyed a US #1 hit in his own right with “Escape (The Pina Colada Song)” in  1979, wrote the song.
