AL JACKSON JR.

Countless soul classics issued by the Hi and Stax labels featured Booker T & The MGs, the record company’s house band. Al Jackson Jr.’s drumming is featured on R&B staples recorded by that group and Otis Redding, Al Green, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas, Donny Hathaway and Rufus Thomas.

Trivia:

When Brian Wilson wrote the first version of "Darlin'", it was entitled "Thinking 'Bout You Baby". It was slated for release by unknown singer Sharon Marie. She was dating fellow Beach Boys member Mike Love. Later, it was altered and re-titled "Darlin'" by Wilson. The song was recorded by a band named Redwood, an early incarnation of Three Dog Night. 

As the Redwood version remained unreleased, The Beach Boys members decided to cut their own take on the song and included it on the 'Wild Honey' album.

PHIL RUDD

Phil Rudd joined AC/DC in 1975, when Bon Scott was the Australian group’s frontman. The drummer persevered after the latter’s tragic death and Brian Johnson took over on lead vocals. Rudd was ousted, then returned to the fold. What is undeniable is the energy his drumming provided on seminal hard rock classics such as “Highway To Hell”, “Back In Black”, “You Shook Me All Night Long” and “It’s A Long Way To The Top”.

JOHN DENSMORE

John Densmore joined The Doors in 1965 and remained a member until its split in 1973. It wasn’t the same without their charismatic lead singer Jim Morrison, but each member contributed to the sound of the band. One of the tracks where Densmore really shines on the skins is “L.A. Woman”.

STEWART COPELAND

Incorporating reggae, punk, funk, rock and world music in his unique drumming style, Stewart Copeland was integral to the music of The Police. His drumming stood out right at the start, on the single “Can’t Stand Losing You”.

TOMMY RAMONE

Thomas Erdeleyi was born in Budapeste, Hungary. In 1974, he joined The Ramones and adopted the stage name Tommy Ramone. The group had a profound impact on the evolution of new wave. Tommy’s beats augmented Ramones tracks such as “Blitzkrieg Bop”.

JERRY ALLISON

Jerry Allison was a member of The Crickets, the backing band for Buddy Holly. He contributed to the writing of the group’s hit “Peggy Sue” (inspired by Allison’s girlfriend at the time). When the rocker died in a plane crash in 1959, Allison took over. Holly was a trendsetter, charting paths in a fledgling genre. Allison as his main musical sideman, also helped pave the way for countless groups that emerged in their wake. It's him slapping away on The Crickets' song "Everyday".
