The First 100 FEMALE SOLOISTS AT No. 1 in THE UK: !980s. More tomorrow.

Caffè  Lattè looks back on:

THE FIRST 100 FEMALE SOLOISTS

AT No. 1 ON THE

UK CHARTS

Two blond females standing side-by-side. They are wearing black trousers and black-and-white tops, with a number of junk jewelry around their neck and hand. The woman on the right crosses her legs and looks towards the image, while the one of the left, looks on her far left. The image is surrounded by a black border, the right of which has the words "Madonna" and "Into the Groove" written in grey capital letters.

While men have fared better overall on the music charts, this is a tribute to the first 100 female soloists to reach number one in Britain in their own right. Excludes collaborations. A chart was compiled from 1952 with the first female reaching #1 the following year.
