In 1974, John Lennon, separated from wife Yoko Ono and living in California, recorded a solo album entitled 'Walls and Bridges'. He wrote all but 2 of the tracks himself, "#9 Dream" being one of them. A beautiful, dreamy song, it was recorded during this period, known as Lennon's "lost weekend", when the former Beatle frequently drank heavily with musical friends Harry Nilson and Ringo Starr. At this time, Lennon was in a relationship with May Pang. She contributes the background vocal on this track.
By 1975, he and Ono were reconciled and were to have a son, Sean, together.
