IMAGINE
“…You may say
I’m a dreamer,
but I’m not
the only one.
I hope someday you’ll join us,
& the world will live
as one…”
John Lennon's "Imagine" continues to inspire decades after its initial release as the title track from the former Beatle's 1971 solo album.
He drew inspiration from poetry written by his wife Yoko Ono. The song asks listeners to imagine a planet without religion, borders, possessions, greed or hunger. Lennon asks us to imagine a cohesive humanity.
His vision is presented with verses filled with hope and promise. No wonder it still moves us today. The single reached #3 in America and topped the Canadian and Australian charts. It has been re-issued many times in Britain, finally reaching #1 there in 1981 following the singer/ songwriter's assassination. A memorial for Lennon in New York's Central Park bears the song's title.
As new songs are covered on this blog, a definitive version will be
