These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.

I Can’t Stop Loving You

Ray Charles did much to expand the parameters of soul music, by incorporating not only gospel and jazz but, later, country music too. In 1962, he topped the American, British and Australian charts with "I Can't Stop Loving You". 

The song had previously been a country chart hit for singer / songwriter Don Gibson. He released the original version in 1958. Charles chose to include his remake on the 'Modern Sounds In Country And Western Music' album.
