Steve Winwood's original version of "Valerie" was included on his 1982 album 'Talking Back To The Night'. The single failed to crack the Top 40 in either Britain or America. A remix version was issued in 1987 as part of Winwood's compilation album 'Chronicles'. Finally, the track bacame a chart hit.
