#25 SEPTEMBER
EARTH, WIND & FIRE
(1978)
Writers: Maurice White, Al McKay & Allee Willis
Earth, Wind & Fire actually recorded "September" in Hollywood during the month of September in 1978. It was included on the funk / R&B group's 'The Best Of Earth, Wind & Fire Vol. 1'. The track was issued as a single 2 months later.
Pivotal group member Maurice White produced the disco-flavoured song. He co-wrote the track with another member of the band, guitarist Al McKay. A third contributor was Allee Willis who also co-wrote the follow-up single to "September" - "Boogie Wonderland".
In early 1979, "September" reached #1 on the US R&B chart. On the Billboard Hot 100, the disc climbed to #8. In Britain, it peaked at #3. The single was also a Top 20 hit in Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
