The 1973 album 'Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player' features some of Elton John's best work. Among its highlights is "Blues For My Baby And Me". With a running time of almost 6 minutes, it is a sweeping epic where Taupin's lyrics and John's melody come together effectively. 
The song finds 2 lovers who have decided to leave their homes and venture off together. The couple's future seems bright according to Taupin's thoughtfully selected words. Musically, the sound is majestic. John demonstrates a new angle to his versatility on the instrument. Backing band member Davey Johnston contributes sitar on the track. 
Gus Dudgeon produced the recording. Paul Buckmaster handled the orchestral arrangement."Blues For My Baby And Me" was recorded at Châteae d'Hérouville, a château located about 25 miles north of Paris, France in mid-1972.
