SONGS IN A MINOR: ALICIA KEYS
[2001]
Few debut albums make the splash that 'Songs In A Minor' did, in introducing us to a thrilling new artist. Alicia Keys' arrival was swiftly acclaimed, based on the strength of her obvious ability and the depth of songwriting ability. Resisting Mariah Carey's tendency to over-sing and distract listeners with her vocal gymnastics, allowed listeners to focus on the quality of Key's approach. While only a few tracks on this album will jump out as immediate, there is no filler. The major exception here is the spectacular hit "Fallin'". Every song is beautifully sung by Keys. Fortunately, she has managed to maintain the high standard of musicianship on this neo-soul classic album on subsequent releases.
Highlight tracks: Fallin'; Butterflies; Caged Bird & Why Do I Feel So Sad.
