BACK TO BLACK: AMY WINEHOUSE
[2006]
It is impossible to listen to 'Back To Black' without remembering Amy Winehouse's untimely death. The album marked a major shift in her music. Here, Mark Ronson's gifted ear and love of music must be given credit. Co-producer Salaam Remi returns at the helm, as he did on debut set 'Frank'. But it is Ronson that gives Winehouse's vocals a golden texture to rival the likes of Dusty Springfield and other blue-eyed soul singers. It is difficult to hear her defiant "Rehab" without realizing the impending tragedy. Winehouse is best when executing gorgeous songs such as the title track and "Love Is A Losing Game". More importantly, the void left by Winehouse's demise ushered in the likes of Adele, Ellie Goulding and Florence & The Machine.
Highiight tracks: You Know I'm No Good; Back To Black & Love Is A Losing Game.
