ACOUSTIC SOUL: INDIA.ARIE
[2001]
India.Arie broke through with 'Acoustic Soul', a stunning debut set, introducing audiences to her fresh neo-soul. She is keenly aware of the R&B traditions that paved the way for her, citing her influences during the track list. This nod to the legacy of soul legends such as Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye complements her own musical context. India.Arie's vocal skills helped keep Motown relevant to the evolution of R&B. She has a hand in writing the tracks on the album. Lyrics come to the forefront on "Video". "Brown Skin" celebrates her culture. She is at her most vulnerable on the utterly beautiful "Ready For Love". "Wonderful" pays tribute to her musical hero Stevie Wonder. 'Acoustic Soul' is an easy album to relax and listen to.
Highiight tracks: Ready For Love; Brown Skin & Video.
