THE FREEWHEELIN’ BOB DYLAN
BOB DYLAN
1963
The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan's album cover. Wearing a brown jacket and blue jeans, a man walks along a snowy street. A woman wearing a long green coat and black pants holds onto his arm and walks alongside him. The words "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan" frame the man's head, and the names of songs contained within the album are listed in small print in the bottom left and right of the image.
The arrival of Bob Dylan's sophomore album revealed the extent of his songwriting skill. Where his self-titled debut album was mostly covers, 'The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan' LP offers only 2 remakes. The remaining 11 tracks are all Dylan originals.
This album is also home to the watershed songs "Blowin' In The Wind" and "Masters Of War". Both kick-started the revival of folk music and protest songs during the 1960s and are still cited as among the most significant in rock history.
With this recording, Dylan took his place among rock's most luminary performers. His lyrics still inspire to this day. As well as the 2 aforementioned tracks, "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" exhibits his gift as a lyricist.
Other highlight songs on this LP include "Girl From The North Country", "Talkin' World War III Blues", "Honey Just Allow Me One More Chance", "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right", "Corrina, Corrina" and "I Shall Be Free". Dylan had arrived.
