THE FINALS
This year, the Eurovision Song Contest
begins with Semi-Final 1 on May 12. That heat will see 17 countries compete for
10 spots in the Grand Final. The 7 entries with the lowest scores will be culled
at this stage.
The process will be repeated in
Semi-Final 2 on May 14 where 18 countries will hope to be among the 10 that
qualify for the Grand Final in this heat.
On May 16, the 10 qualifying entries
from both Semi-Finals will join 6 other countries in the Grand Final. As the
2019 victor, the Netherlands is not required to qualify this year.
The main financial contributors to
Eurovision always automatically pre-qualify for the Grand Final and
therefore are not required to participate in either Semi. They are referred to as ‘The
Big 5’, a group that consists of: Italy, France, United Kingdom, Spain and
Germany. These 26 competitors will battle it out in the Grand Final in
Rotterdam.
Voting involves a panel of judges from each participating country as well as the public. If you are in a country that is competing, you may vote for any entry except your own nation's.
