Part 16: 2003 ("Sanomi").
Continues in 2 days.
THE BIGGEST CONTROVERSIES
Of the
EUROVISION SONG CONTEST
(1956 - 2019)
From its inaugural year, the Eurovision Song Contest has had more than its fair share of controversial moments. This is a special look back on 30 significant upsets in chronological order.

2003
“Sanomi”.
The rules were changed for the 1999 Eurovision Song Contest, allowing countries to sing in any language they preferred. As a result, most songs are performed in English. Moreover, the bulk of winning songs since 1999 have been in English.
In 2003, the Belgian entry was a song entitled “Sanomi”. Curiously, the group Urban Trad performed it in a made-up language! Even more incredible is the fact that the song finished in second place, behind the winning Turkish entry “Everyway That I Can” by Sertab Erener. In fact, only 2 points separated the 2 songs.
