SONG CONTEST
(1956
- 2019)
From

share of controversial moments. This is a special look back on 30 significant upsets
in chronological order.
2009
Put
In Put Out.
Russia’s victory in 2008 brought the Eurovision Song Contest to
Moscow the following year. Each Semi- Final consisted of 19 participants, from
which 9 would be culled. Before the Contest got underway, Georgia’s entry,
scheduled for Semi – Final 1, attracted controversy.
Entitled “We Don’t Want To Put In”, the Georgian song was
considered political and a reference to the Russian Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin.
Georgia was offered an opportunity to replace the song with another, but
decided to withdraw instead. In 2010, Georgia returned to the competition.
