ALL THE MOTOWN #1s RANKED (#9). Continues tomorrow.
Motown scored its first #1 60 years ago. The label, founded by Berry Gordy Jr., made Detroit a pivotal city in R&B history. Its roster boasted soul music legends such as: Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Temptations, Four Tops, Supremes, Boyz II Men, Smokey Robinson and Lionel Richie. All of these titans enjoyed time at the chart summit.
Caffè Lattè pays tribute to the 141 songs on Tamla Motown and its subsidiary labels that reached #1 on the U.S. Pop / Soul charts, ranked in order of impact and influence. Each song’s year of chart peak; weeks spent at the top & writer(s) is included.

END OF THE ROAD
Boyz II Men
[1992] Soul 4 / Pop 13
Babyface; L.A. Reid; Daryl Simmons
Boyz II Men had already made it to the Soul Chart summit twice before, but the release of “End Of The Road” changed everything. The song was featured in the Eddie Murphy film ‘Boomerang’. It was the first single by the vocal group to reach the top on the Pop Chart, occupying the #1 position for a (then) record-breaking 13 weeks. Boyz II Men would surpass this accomplishment with another 2 ballads. Each time, the group proved the relevancy of Motown in popular music. To this day, the label’s 2 longest running #1 songs on Billboard's Hot 100 are both by Boyz II Men (the other being “I’ll Make Love To You”).
