CAFFE` LATTE` TOP 2000 TRACKS
THE TOP 100
#82 TRULY
LIONEL RICHIE
(1982)
Writer: Lionel Richie

Lionel Richie had tested the water without his bandmates in 1981 with "Endless Love", an international #1 hit duet recorded with Diana Ross. Its success proved a solo career could be lucrative for him. He quit The Commodores and set to work on his solo debut album. Its lead single was the ballad "Truly".
The Commodores had, by the late 1970s, scored its biggest hits with love songs such as the US #1 singles "Three Times A Lady" and "Still". Richie had written both chart toppers. He launched his solo career with another ballad, the self-penned 1982 "Truly". The Commodores' producer James Anthony Carmichael continued working with Richie in this new phase. The 2 co-produced "Truly".
Lifted off Richie's self-titled LP, the single reached #1 on both the US Pop and AC charts. It peaked at #2 on the R&B listing. In Britain, the disc made #6. It also climbed to #7 on the Australian Top 40. Follow-up singles "You Are" and "My Love" both reached the Top 5 in America. Richie's solo career was off to a promising start.
By the mid-80s, the singer / songwriter had accumulated another 3 #1 singles in the USA. Richie also co-/ wrote the charity #1 song "We Are The World" (by USA for Africa) and a #1 ballad for Kenny Rogers ("Lady"). Over the years, he has seen 9 of his songs reach #1 in America.
This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A new song from the remaining Top 100 is added each weekday, while another 2 are also included from positions 1501-2000 daily. Check back here every 12 hours for an update of the 2000.
