#93 WHY DO FOOLS FALL IN LOVE
DIANA ROSS
(1981)
Writers: Frankie Lymon & George Goldner
Diana Ross left Motown Records in the early 1980s and switched to RCA/ Capitol. Her big move got off to a promising start with her label debut single: "Why Do Fools Fall In Love". This was a cover of the 1956 #1 for the vocal group Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers. Its lead singer co-wrote the hit single.
Ross' remake was a modern makeover of the song, produced by the singer herself. The artist was finally in control of her career. Her recording output at this time, though not always of high quality, at least saw Ross tackle new musical styles. During her RCA years, the former Supreme rarely repeated herself.
"Why Do Fools..." reached #4 in Britain and 7 in the US. It made the top in parts of Europe, as well as climbing into the Top 10 in New Zealand and Ireland. The disc also peaked at #2 and 6 on the American AC and R&B charts respectively.

This
is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I
cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks.
Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have
universal appeal.
They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal
choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a
better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A
new song from the remaining Top 100 is added each weekday, while another 2 are also
included from positions 1501-2000 daily. Check back here every 12 hours
for
an update of the 2000.
