CAFFE` LATTE` TOP 2000 TRACKS
THE TOP 100
#55 EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE
THE POLICE
(1983)
Writer: Sting
The precision and simplicity in the musicianship powers the often confused Police song "Every Breath You Take". It has been mistaken for a love song about total devotion. But Sting's deliberate lyrics are much more than that. It's a song about an obsessed protagonist who is keeping the object of his affection under surveillance. No doubt, the stalker is convinced this is an expression of love, but it is more sinister than that from the victim's perspective.
"Every Breath..." was included on the group's 'Synchronicity' album, also issued in 1983. Hugh Padgham co-produced ithe track with the trio. The single was a global smash; topping the charts in Britain, America, Canada, Ireland and South Africa. In Europe, Australia and New Zealand, the disc reached the Top 10. The song also collected the 1983 Song of the Year Grammy.
'Synchronicity' was to be the final studio album released by The Police. While on tour supporting the LP, tensions between the 3 became untenable and the members announced the group was going on a sabbatical. As the years apart sped by, there were rumours of a re-union; but, apart from one-off performances, the members focused their musical activities to individual pursuits. Of these, Sting's solo career proved by far the most lucrative.
Finally, in 2007, The Police announced a world tour. Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers managed to put aside their differences and wowed audience members; some that weren't even born when the group had last toured the globe together.

This
is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I
cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks.
Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have
universal appeal.
They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal
choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a
better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A
new song from the remaining Top 100 is added each weekday, while another 2 are also
included from positions 1501-2000 daily. Check back here every 12 hours
for
an update of the 2000.
