CAFFE` LATTE` TOP 2000 TRACKS
THE TOP 100
#53 PART TIME LOVER
STEVIE WONDER
(1985)
Writer: Stevie Wonder
1985 saw the release of 'In Square Circle'. That album contained the worldwide smash "Part Time Lover". The Motown genius wrote, arranged and produced the funky track. Wonder also contributed drums and synthesizers to the hit. The lead vocal is sung by Wonder and Luther Vandross. Philip Bailey (of the group Earth, Wind and Fire) and Syreeta Wright (Stevie's ex-wife) were among the background vocalists.
According to Wonder, the song's melody was inspired by 2 hit singles by Motown's premier girl group, The Supremes. The 2 songs he was referring to are "You Can't Hurry Love" and "My World Is Empty Without You"; both Top 5 songs in 1965-66.
Released as a single, "Part Time Lover" reached #1 Pop, R&B and Adult Contemporary in the USA. It also topped the charts in Canada, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Ireland and New Zealand. The disc peaked at #3 in Britain, France, Australia and Sweden.
This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A new song from the remaining Top 100 is added each weekday, while another 2 are also included from positions 1501-2000 daily. Check back here every 12 hours for an update of the 2000.
