A grayscale image of the upper bust of a woman. She is standing against a wall and she is looking forward, and she wears a T-shirt. At her left, the words "Beyoncé" and "If I Were A Boy" are written in silver capital letters.
Beyoncé addresses the differences between the genders on this introspective pop/ R&B ballad. It avoids sounding preachy thanks largely to the singer's emotional vocal.

The Foo Fighters further entrenched its place among the current crop of leading groups with this alternative rock staple.
144 TOXIC

142 BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS
GREEN DAY [2004]
Anyone wanting to dismiss today's music as lacking the relevance or punch of the past need look no further than this track from Green Day's essential 'American Idiot' album. On "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams", everything is in place: lyrics, instrumentation, song structure and the vocal from Billy Joe Armstrong.
141 CLOWN
EMELI SANDE' [2012]

Emeli Sandé co-wrote this emotional ballad that dissects how the protagonist feels as she attempts to set her singing career in motion. Its production is delicate and measured. The fine and beautiful vocal performance is reminiscent of  Sinead O'Connor's on "Nothing Compares 2 U".  True brilliance and quality from a new yet still underrated performer.

Another 10 songs added tomorrow.
