U.N.I.T.Y.
Queen Latifah
Queen Latifah sounded like no other artist that had ever been part of the Motown roster and was one of the pioneering female figures in hip hop. She took on the misogyny in rap and almost single-handedly created a niché for women in that genre. Along with securing chart success, 'U.N.I.T.Y." collected a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance. The single was released in 1993 and was from her 'Black Reign' album.

NOT OVER YOU YET
Diana Ross

1999 saw Diana Ross riding high on the chart with "Not Over You Yet". The single peaked at #9 in Britain and was lifted off her 'Every Day is A New Day" album.

liFE'S NO FUN LIVING IN THE GHETTO
Willie Hutch
Willie Hutch was a Motown writer / producer who also recorded songs, such as "Life's No Fun Living In The Ghetto" from his 1975 album, 'The Mark Of the Beast'.

AIN'T THAT THE TRUTH
Junior Walker & The All Stars
Junior Walker & The All Stars was 1 of the underrated acts on Motown. The group served up some of the best raw soul that sounded like a bridge between Stax Records and the beat from Detroit. "Ain't That The Truth" was the B-side for the group's 1967 single "Shoot Your Shot".

ALL I KNOW ABOUT YOU
The Supremes
"All I Know About you" was the flip side for The Supremes' #1 hit "The Happening" in 1967.

NOTHING'S TOO GOOD FOR MY BABY
Stevie Wonder
"Nothing's Too Good For My Baby" was a single lifted off Stevie Wonder's 'Uptight' album. It peaked at #4 on the R&B chart in 1966.

IT'S A DESPERATE SITUATION
Marvin Gaye
"It's A Desperate Situation" was originally intended for David Ruffin to record after he quit the Temptations. Marvin Gaye put his stamp on it in 1967-8. This lost gem was finally unlocked from the Motown vaults in 1994.

LOVIN', LIVIN' AND GIVIN'
Diana Ross
Thank God It's Friday (poster).jpgDiana Ross contributed "Lovin', Livin' And Givin'" to the soundtrack for the disco film 'Thank God It's Friday' in 1978.

THAT'LL BE THE DAY
The Temptations
You've Got To Earn It.jpgFortunately, the gorgeous David Ruffin-led Temptations track "That'll Be the Day" (not to be confused by the vastly different Buddy Holly & The Crickets song) saw the light of day when it was finally released from the Motown archives in 1999.

DO I LOVE YOU (INDEED I DO)
Frank Wilson
Do I Love You (Indeed I Do) Frank Wilson is best known as a Motown writer / producer who helped create jewels such as "Love Child" for The Supremes, Brenda Holloway's "You've Made Me So Very Happy" and the Eddie Kendricks song "Keep On Truckin'". In 1965, the Motown hitmaker aspired to be a recording act and cut "Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)". The single is such a rarity that it is prized among collectors. Northern Soul fans also cherish this disc.
