FLEETWOOD MAC: FLEETWOOD MAC
[1975]
While 'Fleetwood Mac' was soon eclipsed by the phenomenal commercial and critical success of 'Rumours', this LP laid the groundwork for that release. With this album, the group Fleetwood Mac positioned itself to create a watershed follow-up record. Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks had just joined the line-up. Their recruitment resulted in a change of direction for the outfit. The 2 songwriters led the others away from the band's British blues roots. 'Fleetwood Mac' marked a shift, immersing the group in a West Coast rock sound that would catapult Fleetwood Mac into one of the biggest pop/ rock groups in the world. Nicks offered the band her mystic "Rhiannon", now a signature song for the group. Christine McVie followed her bandmates down this new musical path and contributed radio staples such as "Over My Head" and "Say You Love Me". Another Nicks composition, "Landslide" was overshadowed by the hit singles but finally gained attention when The Dixie Chicks released a cover version in 2002. Other underrated but noteworthy tracks include "Warm Ways", "Crystal" and "Monday Morning".
Highlight tracks: Say You Love Me; Over My Head & Rhiannon.
