EUROVISION
2017
As countries begin selecting
their entries for the Eurovision Song Contest in May, this blog will look back
on the stats and the best from each of the 43 participating nations.
UKRAINE
Jamala’s
win in Stockholm last year with “1944” brings Eurovision back to the city of
Kiev, the host city in 2005. The country first competed in 2003. It won the following year, thanks to an energetic performance by Ruslana. This victory marked a significant watershed as former Soviet territories became serious contenders at Eurovision. The country opted out in 2015 but returned the following year and emerged triumphant.
Ukraine’s victory guarantees its entry a place in
the 2017 Grand Final. The song and its performer will be announced in late February.
