ELEANOR RIGBY
THE BEATLES
“…All the lonely people,
where do they all
come from?
All the lonely people,
where do they all belong?…”
Although credited to both Paul McCartney and John Lennon, as was the custom for The Beatles' 2 principal songwriters, "Eleanor Rigby" is mostly from the former's pen.
It evolved over time, with the 2 characters in the song taking form by the ballad's conclusion. There's the woman of the title, who is desperately lonely. Father MacKenzie ends up at Rigby's funeral. He is the only one present at her burial.
The song's imagery is powerful to this day. As one of The Fab 4's best creations, much of its mood is due to the input of producer George Martin.
The Beatles began recording "Eleanor Rigby" in late April 1966. It was released as a single on August 5, the same day as its parent album 'Revolver'.
As new songs are covered on this blog, a definitive version will be
added to a spotify playlist. Find it and the other Caffé Latté playlists at:
