Paul Simon's lyrics involve a man blocking out all feelings and emotions in order to shield himself from any further pain or hurt. A failed romance has left him determined to never be affected the same way again. He plans to shut himself off from others. 

The song was recorded in 1965 by Simon and Art Garfunkel. It was released as a single and peaked at #3 in America and made the British Top 20.
