CXL: TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY BABY. Continues next week.
BEFORE IT WAS A
HIT SONG…
These songs are well known but you may not know about the
earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.
Take Good Care Of My Baby
Although Bobby Vee's recording of "Take Good Care Of My Baby" was the first to be released to the public, an earlier version was cut previously by another teen idol.
Carole King and Gerry Goffin co-wrote the song. Vee's producer Snuff Garrett heard a demo by King while searching for new material. He didn't usually give Vee songs that had already been cut, but Garrett liked "Take Good Care Of My Baby" and was informed that the original was not going to be issued. Vee recorded the song and his version reached #1 in America in 1961.
The original was performed by Dion. The American singer's version remained unreleased until its inclusion on his 'Runaround Sue' album which was issued after Vee's cover had reached the top.
Each new song will be added to the
spotify playlist named: ‘Before It Was A Hit Song’. You can check out the previous earlier /
original versions of the hit songs you know and love.
