RUBBER SOUL
THE BEATLES
1965
Rubber Soul.jpg
By 1965, The Beatles had already broken through the glass ceiling of what could be achievement by a rock group. They had transformed popular music. The band had sparked a revision of chart feats and sales records. On 'Rubber Soul', The Beatles further expanded the sonic possibilities, challenging the accepted norms and rendering the future limitless.
With George Martin, The Beatles introduced new instruments into the rock pallete, most notably the sitar on "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)". Paul McCartney and John Lennon were exploring new songwriting ideas on their own while George Harrison began to sharpen his own creative input with "Think For Yourself" and "If I Needed Someone".
"Nowhere Man" sees the band heading in the direction of more serious themes, laying the groundwork for later musical endeavours. Another solid contribution from Lennon is the sublime "In My Life". McCartney offers one of his most tender love songs, "Michelle". Among the other standout tracks are: "The Word", "You Won't See Me" and "Girl".
