These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.

Twilight Time

The Platters were one of the most successful vocal groups in the formative years of soul music. In 1958, "Twilight Time" topped the US chart and peaked at #3 in Britain. 

Prior to that popular remake, "Twilight Time" had charted as an instrumental for The Three Suns in 1944. This original version climbed to #8 on the US chart.
