THIS CENTURY’S TOP 100
€UROVISION SONGS
Since 2000, the Eurovision Song Contest has seen major changes. Many countries have hosted for the first time. New countries have dominated. While some nations have sadly withdrawn, Italy has returned and new countries – including Australia - have been welcomed.  The first 2 decades of this century has provided us with new ESC heroes and memories, including Conchita Wurst, Verka Serduchka and Ruslana. The quality of songs and number of participants- spread out over 2 semi-finals – has catered for a wide range of tastes. Here are 100 songs that stand out – some won, some qualified for the Grand Final while others were culled early; but each one carried its nation’s hopes for Eurovision glory in the annual music event.

GRANDE AMORE
Il Volo
ITALY 2015
This remains one of the classiest entries seen at Eurovision. Operatic pop in the style of Il Divo effectively conveyed an Italian flavour that lifted this song to 3rd place in Vienna. Performed entirely in Italian by 3 vocalists dressed impeccably.

WILD DANCES
Ruslana
UKRAINE 2004
Ruslana's delivery is still remembered as one of the most memorable. Mustering the might of an Amazon woman, she belted out a song with English and Ukrainian lyrics. She stormed into 1st place in the Grand Final, despite coming 2nd in the Semi-Final.  Her victory brought Eurovision to the Ukraine for the first time in 2005.

MY NUMBER ONE
Elena Paparizou
GREECE 2005
Greece debuted at Eurovision in 1974. It finally achieved a win in 2005 with an upbeat song performed by one half of the duo Antique. With "(I Would) Die For You", the pair gave Greece its best result, finishing 3rd. Elena Paparizou returned as a soloist and the ESC  was held in Athens in 2006 as a result of her triumph.

FAIRYTALE
Alexander Rybak
NORWAY 2009
"Fairytale" broke the record for the highest score at Eurovision in 2009. With the expansion of ESC participating countries, that record has since been overtaken. Still, there is no doubt that the Minsk-born Norwegian musician's entry remains an indelible memory.

Although divisive, Conchita Wurst definitely attracted the Eurovision audience's attention. Her powerful delivery of a song that resonated with the marginalized, marked a turning point for the contest.
