After years in a stormy marriage, she decided to leave him. Tina rebuilt her career and enjoyed a revival as a soloist, beginning with her international hit “What’s Love Got To Do With It” and the album ‘Private Dancer’.

All over the world, fans mourned her loss in May 2023. Tina leaves behind an unmatched legacy of funk, rock, pop and R&B tracks, celebrated here with this countdown of her 100 most essential recordings.

GOLDENEYE

 1995

There is a great deal of prestige in singing a Bond song. The film franchise which began in 1962, boasts timeless and thrilling title tracks recorded by the likes of Shirley Bassey, Wings, Duran Duran and Sheena Easton. Tina Turner joined this illustrious group with the title song for ‘GoldenEye’. U2’s Bono and The Edge wrote the track. Nellee Hooper produced it. The trip hop sound gave the track a contemporary and fresh approach without compromising the Bond canon’s past. Turner’s reading immediately placed “GoldenEye” up there with the likes of “Goldfinger”, “Live And Let Die”, “Diamonds Are Forever” and “Nobody Does It Better”. Turner’s execution demonstrated how modern sounds could complement the Bond tradition and served as a blueprint for subsequent 007 songs performed by Adele, Sam Smith and Billie Eilish.
