ISLANDS IN THE STREAM
Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton 1983
After scoring his first Pop #1 with “Lady” thanks to working with writer/ producer Lionel Richie, Kenny Rogers’ next move was to ask The Bee Gees to create a project for him. That concept became the ‘’Eyes That See In The Dark’ album. All of its tracks were written and produced by Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb. The Gibb brothers had a song that they envisaged as a duet for a singer like Diana Ross. Rogers liked the idea and when it was suggested he should record it with Dolly Parton, “Islands In The Stream” was given a more country feel. The single proved to be a crossover success, spending 2 weeks at #1 Country and Pop and 4 weeks at the top of the Easy Listening Chart. It also made #1 in Canada and Australia and was a major hit in Britain and across Europe. Rogers collaborated with Parton for a TV special and other duets, including “Real Love” in 1985.
