RHINESTONE COWBOY
Glen Campbell 1975
Larry Weiss penned “Rhinestone Cowboy”, a song Glen Campbell first heard on radio. He bought a cassette with the song on it and took it with him on his tour of Australia. He planned to cut a remake. Once back in America, Al Coury at Capitol Records (Campbell was signed to that label) suggested a song for the singer to record. Coincidentally, that song was “Rhinestone Cowboy”. The single ended up being Campbell’s biggest hit; spending 3 weeks at #1 Country, 2 weeks at #1 Pop and 1 week at #1 Easy Listening.
