After penning "Private Dancer", Mark Knopfler decided that the song was better suited for a female to sing. It was offered to Tina Turner for her 1984 album project. The song became the LP's title track. Knopfler's bandmates from Dire Straits are featured on the cut and the guitar solo was performed by Jeff Beck.
