ALL THE EUROVISION COUNTRIES: (43-44). More: tomorrow.
Caffè ☕️Lattè looks back on:
ALL THE
EUROVISION
COUNTRIES
The Eurovision Song Contest was first held in 1956. Back then, only 7 countries participated. In the decades since, dozens of other nations have joined the ESC family. As Europe changed, countries faded into history as new countries and new names emerged. Eurovision itself has expanded beyond the European continent; to Africa, the Middle East and the Southern Hemisphere.
Our spotlight looks back on every country that has competed – in chronological order.
2005
The 2005 Eurovision Song Contest was held in Kyiv and broke the record for most participants: 39. Along with 2 debuting nations, Hungary returned to the ESC for the first time since 1998.
XLIII
MOLDOVA
Moldova qualified for the Grand Final with its first entry. Its best result so far is third place in 2017 with “Hey Mamma” by The Sunstroke Project. This entry is fondly remembered for introducing audiences to Sergey Stepanov, dubbed the “Epic Sax Guy”. This year will be the country’s 20th participation. Natalia Barbu will be representing Moldova with “In The Middle” in Semi-Final 1.
XLIV
BULGARIA
Bulgaria competed in the 2005 Semi-Final but failed to qualify for the Grand Final. It participated in 15 Contests. The first time Bulgaria progressed into the Grand Final was in 2007, finishing fifth. In 2016, it improved its best result by landing in fourth position. The following year, Kristian Kostov claimed the runner up spot with “Beautiful Mess”. 2022 remains the last year of Bulgarian participation thus far.
