In 2023, Sweden won the Eurovision Song Contest for a record-equalling seventh time (shared with Ireland). It is hard to argue that any other ESC participant country takes the annual event as seriously as the Swedes do. Their national selections – Melodifestivalen- is held over many weeks and usually features several strong contenders. The final rivals the actual Eurovision Final in its professionalism and entertainment.

Sweden has finished in fifth place on 10 occasions, including in the 2001 Contest. Thomas G:son, one of the hottest songwriters, co-wrote “Listen To Your Heartbeat” which was performed by the group Friends.
