30 DANCING QUEEN ABBA

Crowned ABBA’s most famous track years ago, this 1976 worldwide #1 single has been re-issued. In 1992, the disc returned to the charts in Britain, Australia, Europe and New Zealand when the group suddenly became cool again.  


29 WICKED GAME Chris Isaak

Initially released in mid-1989, the single was stalling until being featured in the 1990 David Lynch film ‘Wild At Heart’. The disc gained airplay and enough sales to reach the British, American and Canadian Top 10s.


28 OLD TIME ROCK AND ROLL Bob Seger

Released as a single in 1979, this rock track remained obscure until Tom Cruise danced in his underwear to it in the 1983 hit film ‘Risky Business’. 


27 SACRIFICE Elton John

When this ballad was first released, it barely dented the charts. Despite this, the song continued being played on radio. Follow-up single “Healing Hands” was then issued as a double A-sided single with “Sacrifice”. Together, the two songs topped the UK Chart. 

26 AT THIS MOMENT Billy Vera & The Beaters

In the TV series “Family Ties”, Alex Keaton (portrayed by Michael J. Fox) was romantically involved with Ellen (played by his real-life future wife Tracy Pollan). This song was played often on the show. Despite being 5 years old, it topped the US and Canadian charts.

25 CRUEL SUMMER Taylor Swift

This song instantly became a fan favourite. Many commentators were surprised that it was not issued as a single. First heard on the 2019 album ‘Lover’, the singer’s label relented and issued it as a single in 2023. “Cruel Summer” went on to reach #1 in America, Canada and Australia. It peaked at #2 in Britain.

24 NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN The Moody Blues

First released in 1967, this epic track made the UK Top 20 but stalled at #103 Stateside. When the single was re-issued in 1972. It reached #2 in America and remains the group’s biggest hit there.

23 RING RING ABBA

When ABBA first tried out to represent Sweden at Eurovision, it was with this song. Although the judges passed on the song, the public loved it. The following year, ABBA won the Song Contest with “Waterloo”. In 1975, ABBA were ubiquitous in Australia and this led to the song’s re-release. The single peaked at #7 in 1976.


22 MONSTER MASH Bobby “Boris” Pickett & The Crypt-Kickers

A perennial Halloween favourite, this single reached #1 in America in 1962. In 1973, the disc reached #3 in the UK. It most recently re-charted in 2021, climbing to #37 in the U.S.A.


21 TWIST AND SHOUT The Beatles

Originally released in 1964, this remake peaked at #2 in America. The song was featured in the 1986 film ‘Ferris Beuller’s Day Off’ which propelled it back into the American Top 40. The disc peaked at #23.
