Caffè  Lattè looks back on:

60 YEARS

OF THE

BILLBOARD

DISCO/DANCE

CHART

Billboard began ranking the top Disco and Dance tracks in 1974. Six decades of dancefloor favourites have kept us in discotheques and clubs to this day. Billboard discontinued the chart in 2020 as nightclubs shut down in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is a focus on the acts that achieved the most number one songs, a Top 10 that has amassed 14 or more #1s…

-THE ACTS WITH THE MOST NUMBER ONES-

Oct. 26th, 1974:         The Disco Chart debuts in Billboard.

MADONNA

The most successful act on the Dance Chart is Madonna. Since her arrival, she has dominated this Billboard chart accruing more entries than any other performer. Madonna first reached #1 in 1983 with the double A-sided 12” release “Holiday / Lucky Star”. Its 5-week reign at the top was the longest enjoyed by her No. 1s. As the decades passed, she returned to the top with unforgettable dancefloor favourites including “Into The Groove”, “Like A Prayer”, “Vogue”, “Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina” and ending with her last #1: “I Don’t Search I Find”.
