60 YEARS
OF THE
BILLBOARD
DISCO/DANCE
CHART
Billboard began ranking the top Disco and Dance tracks in 1974. Six decades of dancefloor favourites have kept us in discotheques and clubs to this day. Billboard discontinued the chart in 2020 as nightclubs shut down in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is a focus on the acts that achieved the most number one songs, a Top 10 that has amassed 14 or more #1s…
-THE ACTS WITH THE MOST NUMBER ONES-
Oct. 26th, 1974: The Disco Chart debuts in Billboard.
#4
20 #1s
JANET JACKSON
Of all the members of the Jackson siblings, it is Janet that is way out in front with a staggering total of 20 Dance Chart #1s. She first charted in 1983 with ”Come Give Your Love To Me” but had to wait until 1986 and “When I Think Of You” to score her first #1. Seven consecutive number ones followed. Her 20th visit to the chart summit was in 2018 with “Made For Now” featuring Daddy Yankee.
