OF THE
BILLBOARD
DISCO/DANCE
CHART
Billboard began ranking the top Disco and Dance tracks in 1974. Six decades of dancefloor favourites have kept us in discotheques and clubs to this day. Billboard discontinued the chart in 2020 as nightclubs shut down in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is a focus on the acts that achieved the most number one songs, a Top 10 that has amassed 14 or more #1s…
-THE ACTS WITH THE MOST NUMBER ONES-
Oct. 26th, 1974: The Disco Chart debuts in Billboard.

16 #1s
DONNA SUMMER
The introduction of the Disco Chart in Billboard Magazine saw Donna Summer swiftly take the lead, accruing no less than 9 #1s by the end of the 1970s. She scored 3 more in the 1980s. By the time of her death in 2012, she had achieved a total of 14 number ones on the chart. Her posthumous #1s are remixes of “MacArthur Park {Laidback Luke Remix}” and “Hot Stuff 2018”.
