#168 FALL ON ME R.E.M.
Released just prior to R.E.M. crossing over to the mainstream. "Fall On Me" was an early track from the band. Dropped as the lead single from their 1986 album 'Life's Rich Pageant', the track tackled social issues; in this case, the environment. 
Its creation is credited to the band members. Don Gehman produced the LP. "Radio Free Europe" had announced the group's arrival earlier that decade, but "Fall On Me" saw R.E.M. make further inroads on charts outside of the USA as well as being their biggest success to date domestically on the Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart. 
Everything changed for R.E.M. the following year. "The One I Love" made pop and rock audiences aware of the band and propelled it into the Top 10 at home and internationally. After years of brilliant songs, the group disbanded in 2011.
 
This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
