#169 WHAT A BITCH IS LOVE Marcia Hines
The 1970s established Boston- born Marcia Hines as 1 of Australia's favourite female performers, with a string of hits that continued into the ensuing decade. The 'Take it From the Boys' album was issued in 1981. The 3rd single from this LP was "What a Bitch is Love". Dropped late in that year, the song remains 1 of Hines' strongest vocal performances on record.
The track was written by Paul Greedus and Barry Blue. Fellow Australian David Mackay produced Hines' recording. He had previously worked on key Aussie hits that included "Sadie (The Cleaning Lady)" by John Farnham, "Needle in a Haystack" for The Twilights and The Mixtures' "The Pushbike Song". He also scored success internationally, working on songs like "I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing" a British #1 for The New Seekers, Eurovision Sing Contest entries for Cliff Richard and the latter group, as well as Bonnie Tyler's #1 "It's A Heartache". Mackay later worked with Demis Roussos, Dusty Springfield and Gene Pitney. 
Hines, in the meantime, continued charting into 1983 before a self-imposed hiatus to concentrate on raising her daughter Deni. It was 11 years before she returned to the charts, with "Rain(Let the Children Play)". The revival proved to be a success, but really came to fruition in 2003 once she was recruited as a regular judge on "Australian Idol".

Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice.
